Spring-where art thou?

The past two weeks have been tough on the Telecommuting Mom. Preschool was closed temporarily due to a paperwork issue with the state, leaving me (and other families) scrambling to find alternative child care. Because I rely on preschool mornings to accomplish much of my work I was in a serious pickle. Couple this with what seemed like a mild but never-ending case of the flu and the result? Telecommuting? No. Frustrated and tired mommy? Yes.

Because I telecommute I have access to my computer, ill or healthy, with no worries about getting co-workers sick. That does not mean, however, I can actually work if the flu strikes (headaches, lack of energy?) Illness is a problem whether you work in an office, telecommute, work from home or any combination of the above. I could argue that because I don’t work in an office the opportunities for infection are fewer, but add kids to that equation and the probability of catching a virus skyrockets.

I am not on a payroll so I don’t get sick days, therefore I spent nearly a week watching my billable hours waste away, wrapped in a blanket, trying to keep the tissues from taking over my house. Sniff, sniff.

  1. Catching cold when you are telecommuting is a pain. You have to nurse your flu, taking care of your kids, working… wow… Hope you will get well soon.

  2. Thanks for the thoughts..It’s nice to know others understand!
