The Snow Day

Working from home is great on snowy, wintry days. I don’t need to need to dig out the driveway early in the morning, or climb into a frigid vehicle, or worry about how my giant snow boots look with a nice outfit. I just walk downstairs to my office with a cup of coffee and  flip on the fireplace for extra warmth. Usually this works out incredibly well until there is … a snow day. The preschools in town follow the public school system schedule (rightly so) so when they close, the preschool closes. Then I have a day of work with a toddler and a preschooler. Yikes.

The lousy thing about telecommuting is that because I work from home it just naturally falls into my lap that I “stay home” with the kids on the snow day. Should I work in an out-of-the home office I suspect we would flip a coin to see who calls in for the day.

You may be able to check a few emails here and there but a day’s work will not get done (at least get done well) with small children running afoot.
